The Hotdog fold is an ancient fold that has been adapted by the three kingdoms of life. We describe a largely enzymatic superfamily that contains many proteins involved in fatty acid metabolism and other metabolic pathways. This superfamily contains several functional subfamilies and we hope that our analysis may help in identifying functions for the unknown proteins that we predict contain a Hotdog fold.
