Survey of patterns under diffusive signalling. Patterns generated by the diffusive signalling mechanism, for a variety of different values of the sensitivity parameter, Sdiff = 1,3,10,40 and the morphogen decay rate, λ = 1,5,10,40, as indicated. We plot the distribution of cells at the end of a single realisation of the model for each pair of values Sdiff and λ. For fixed Sdiff, increasing λ decreases the scale of the patterns. For fixed λ, as Sdiff increases there is a transition from random differentiation, through a "noisy pattern" stage, to patches of cells which are almost all of one type. The point at which this transition occurs depends upon the values of both parameters.
