Sample Taxonomic Assignment of an Ambiguous Read. Assigning read R i to the j th node of T i partitions the leaves of T i into true positives, false positives, true negatives, and false negatives. In this example, the hits are M i = {s1, s5, s6, s7}. If we let j be the blue circled node, we obtain TP i,j = {s5, s6, s7}, FP i,j = {s8}, TN i,j = {s2, s3, s4}, FN i,j = {s1}. True hit H = s5 (defined in Section "Validation: Performance in ROC Space").
