(top) Segmentation without the median filter subtraction left background noise in the segmentation. (center) Segmentation with the 5x5 median filter subtraction removed background noise and smaller lenticulostriate arteries (LSA). (bottom) Segmentation with the 11x11 median-filter leaves small amounts of background noise near the larger arteries while leaving the LSAs in the segmentation.
