Example of generating maximal quasi-modules for the path T 1 = { c , b , a } from Figure 3(c). The algorithm first identifies the genes that are not satisfied with the miRNA sets T h ¯ ={} and T v ¯ ={a} (a is the only gene which is connected by an edge to just 2 out of 4 viral miRNAs). Next the miRNAs which are connected to all the genes in sets T h ¯ and T v ¯ are identified as H ¯ ={1,2,3,6} and V ¯ ={A,C} (shaded circles). Then these sets are extended by enumerating the remaining miRNAs (white circles). This enumeration yields two quasi-modules which appear in Figure 2(a) and (b).
