Example of generating maximal quasi-modules for the path T ₁ = { c , b , a } from Figure 3(c). The algorithm first identifies the genes that are not satisfied with the miRNA sets $\overline{T_h}=\left\{\right\}$ and $\overline{T_v}=\left\{a\right\}$ (a is the only gene which is connected by an edge to just 2 out of 4 viral miRNAs). Next the miRNAs which are connected to all the genes in sets $\overline{T_h}$ and $\overline{T_v}$ are identified as $\overline{H}=\{1,2,3,6\}$ and $\overline{V}=\{A,C\}$ (shaded circles). Then these sets are extended by enumerating the remaining miRNAs (white circles). This enumeration yields two quasi-modules which appear in Figure 2(a) and (b).
