Maximally extending a seed exact match, (a) When there is an exact match of length k for the seed sequence, (b) it is extended to the left as much as possible and the extended seed is granted score. Afterwards, (c) the k − 1 leftmost letters from the seed are kept for the next iteration of MAXIMALLY SEED in Algorithm 1.
