PFK and TPS over-expression. The production of glycerol and the activity of pyruvate kinase are strongly coupled in GEPs that are well adapted for heat shock response. The x-axis represents the fold-change in PYK gene expression. The y-axis presents the production of glycerol. High expressions of PYK lead to lower production rates of glycerol. This constrains the fold-change in PYK gene expression, because a minimum rate of glycerol production is necessary for adaptation to heat shock.
