  1. Expression ratios are defined as follows. For the ethanol signature, as the average expression level of a gene in the 4 ethanol-challenged cultures divided by the average expression level in the 8 cultures not exposed to ethanol. For the non-ethanol signature, the ratio was inverted and a negative sign was included to indicate that these genes are down-regulated as the result of the ethanol challenge.
