There is a change in the trend of the ranked G-statistic values at around the 4000 sorted profiles, indicating that two classes of profiles, i.e., periodic/aperiodic, are present in the dataset. Nevertheless, this classification is not exact as there is not distinctive sharp drop in the ranked G-statistics. (b) Histogram of the G-statistic values of P. falciparum. A profile with larger G-statistic value implies it is much more likely to be periodic. We see that many of the profiles are periodic. However, no distinct valley can be observed, indicating that it is difficult to set a cut-off between periodicity and aperiodicity here.
