Speed and sensitivity of the tested bisulfite aligners. Hash-based aligners (BSMAP and ERNE-BS5 2) align the highest number of reads in unique positions and are faster than BWT-based aligners (Bowtie 1 and Bowtie 2). As expected, the hybrid ERNE’s dB-hash data structure is faster than BWT-based indexes and slower than classic hash-based indexes (BSMAP)
