Visibiome’s workflow. The figure outlines the typical workflows when using Visibiome. The upper part deals with the Web interface and user interaction. At the core of Visibiome are two analysis types, comprehensive/phylogeny based and quick/non-phylogenetic distance based. Note that Analysis Type I (GNAT search) selectively compares to chosen database samples during GNAT traversal which are specific to the query sample. For some parts of the visualization however, a complete beta diversity distance matrix is required. As a consequence, the algorithm chooses M’ samples from the intersection of the individual search spaces. Moreover, barcharts for compositional comparisons ∗ are currently only generated for Analysis Type I
