Effect of the mRNA transport rates on the transcription time delay. a and b show the β-casein mRNA expression time profiles at low and baseline values of the rate of mRNA export. Plots in c and d show the corresponding nuclear STAT5 levels. By decreasing the transport rate ten fold, we can see almost 3 h delay between STAT5 and β-casein mRNA peaks, showing that these rates contribute to a large extent towards the observed time delay in experiments. e and f show the integrated β-casein levels at the three time points which shows that the temporal switch is preserved at low mRNA transport rates. The error bars are obtained by generating an ensemble of models by sampling over parameter space
