From: Physcraper: a Python package for continually updated phylogenetic trees using the Open Tree of Life
The Physcraper framework consists of four general steps. The star represents the “search taxon”, the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) of all taxa in the ingroup that is also a named clade in the NCBI taxonomy.
