Trimmed Means of M values (TMM) correction of experimental data removes skew in pre-clinical species, stemming from variation in number of reads mapped. Within tissue comparisons of tpm values for 13,000 orthologous genes to their median tissue value in human (GTEx and HPA) reveal a consistently lower average tpm in pre-clinical species. This is likely driven by higher depth of sequencing in pre-clinical datasets. TMM accounts and corrects for differences in sequencing depth
