(A) The linearized perturbed system superimposed on the approximate nominal limit cycle obtained using the harmonic balance method. (B) The response of the non-linear system. For the perturbation of size 7% the linearized system is stable and so we see the responses settle into a stable limit cycle. For 9%, the linearized system is no longer stable, so that the response of the linear system increases unboundedly, as the trajectory moves away from the nominal equilibrium. In the non-linear response we see this manifested as a transition to a stable steady state.Back to article page
