Error as function of computation time. MCMC and CVM error as a function of computation time. Error is defined as the absolute difference between the exact LOD score and the estimated LOD score, averaged over all positions of the trait locus. MCMC error of 10 independent runs do not converge to a better estimate than the CVM estimate with C1. CVM computation time is varied by adjusting the convergence criterion. Thus, CVM achieves higher accuracy for a given amount of computation time. CVM estimates are reproducible.
