For each identification criterion, values were averaged across six insect orders (Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Orthoptera; SD as error bars). Dataset A (including 15,948 DNA barcodes) was used to quantify the proportion of correct identification according to BM, BCM and NJT, while dataset B (including 14,254 DNA barcodes) to quantify the identification success of ASB (see text for explanations).
