Examples of situations where buried clones cause problems in clone ordering by LTC. (a) Clone c i is buried in clone c j and significantly overlaps with clone c k , but overlap of clones c i and c k is not significant. (b) The net of significant clone overlaps for the situation (a). Exclusion of buried clone c i leads to a loss of connection between the left and right parts of the net. (c) Clones cannot be ordered to fit the requirement that adjacent clones overlap significantly (because the buried clone significantly overlapped with one clone only).
