Two-domain model. Schematic representation of the two-domain model. The extravasation of neutrophils (or macrophages) from blood to tissue depends on local permeability, P(x, t), and on the difference between local concentrations of neutrophils in the two domains, Nmax(x, t) - N(x, t). The permeability of the endothelium, which separates the two domains, varies with regard to time and space and depends on the local presence of pro-inflammatory cytokines and protein granules.
