Segmentations produced by maximal-information are shown in red; segmentations produced by sephaCe are shown in blue. In (a) both algorithms select similar frames and produce similar and accurate results. In (b) maximal-information selects a alternative set of frames at different focus planes from the fixed strategy and produces significantly lower segmentation errors. Here the sephaCe method fails to accurately detect four cells along with over segmenting another. In (c) segmentation results are shown closeup.
