Comparison of the human mitochondrial genome to three other mitochondrial genomes: A) hagfish Myxine glutinosa (Mg); B) fruit fly Drosophilia melanogaster (Dm); C) nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (Ce). Blocks indicate regions of local similarity between two genomes. Numbers in these blocks (Gm1 etc.) indicate the order of the blocks in the reference genome. Grey blocks indicate inversions relative to the human genome (i.e. these sequences are found on the opposite strand of the DNA helix and in the reverse direction)
