On the left, a non-synchronized cycle traversal: edges e 4 and e 10 coincide, although (10-4) is even. A simple operation transforms it into two synchronized cycles, such that the sum of alternating flows is unchanged. Note that one of the two remaining cycles has edges \(e^{\prime }_{2}\) and \(e^{\prime }_{5}\) coincide. It is nonetheless synchronized and cannot be split into two even length cycle traversals since (5−2) is odd
